3 Day Itinerary in Tulum, Mexico

Tulum; just by saying the name, a breeze of freshness can be perceived. It is one of the most beautiful beach destinations located in the Yucatan Peninsula, known for its white sand beaches, turquoise blue waters, ancient ruins, and rich cultural heritage. Whether you're looking for relaxation or adventure, Tulum has something for everyone.

If your visit to this heavenly place is brief, we understand that you would want to make the most of your time here and experience everything possible. Therefore, we've put together a 3-day itinerary for your trip to Tulum, including the best restaurants, must-visit cenotes, and a local excursion with Boutique Tours Mexico.

Day 1: Arrive in Tulum and Relax

After arriving in Tulum, take some time to settle into your villa and get acquainted with your surroundings. Our villas are located within walking distance of some of the best restaurants in Tulum. We recommend Hartwood, Arca, and Nu as the must-visit restaurants during your stay in Tulum. These restaurants offer a unique culinary experience that combines traditional Mexican ingredients with modern cooking techniques.

For dinner, we recommend heading to Hartwood, located in the heart of Tulum. This restaurant is known for its wood-fired dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes daily depending on what's in season, so be sure to ask your server for recommendations. Reservations at Heartwood are coveted so if you would like us to book your reservation please let us know. We make reservations for our guests. If you're looking for a more elevated dining experience, Arca is a great option. Their wood-fired outdoor kitchen, Mexican flavor profiles, and incredible presentation have earned them a spot in the top 50 restaurants in the world, and it is well deserved. Arca can be booked directly on Open Table.

Day 2: Yoga and Cenotes

No trip to Tulum is complete without a visit to the cenotes. These natural sinkholes are filled with crystal-clear water and are a must-visit attraction for anyone visiting the area. We recommend visiting Cenote Corazón del Paraíso and Cenote Cristal during your stay.

The combination of yoga, cenotes, and relaxation sounds like the ultimate weekend retreat, doesn't it? Start your day with a perfectly balanced private morning yoga session on the beach or in your private villa, or pop next door to Sanara, the best beachfront yoga and wellness studio in Tulum. Your body and soul will feel both invigorated and blissful as you head off to explore the cenotes.

These clear water natural pools seem to glow from within, and they give an inexplicable urge to dive in and feel its cool embrace. Cenote Corazón del Paraíso is located just outside of Tulum and is known for its crystal clear water and stunning natural surroundings. The cenote is surrounded by lush vegetation and has a peaceful, secluded feel. After taking a refreshing swim in the cenote, be sure to relax on the wooden deck and soak up the sun.

Cenote Cristal is another must-visit cenote located in the Tulum area. This cenote is unique because of its underwater cave system that you can explore with a guide. Snorkeling equipment is available for rent, and there are plenty of fish and turtles to see. This is a great option for the whole family with diving platforms and lush mangroves.

Day 3: Muyil Excursion with Boutique Tours Mexico

On your final day in Tulum, we recommend taking a local excursion with Boutique Tours Mexico. They are our trusted partner for local guides and have received excellent feedback from our guests. One of the most popular tours is the Muyil Excursion, which takes you to the ancient Mayan ruins of Muyil, located just outside of Tulum.

During the tour, you'll learn about the history and culture of the Mayan people and explore the ruins of the ancient city. After the tour, you'll take a boat ride through the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse wildlife.
